SCISYS Media Solutions: Renewed TV complex at Radio Bremen goes on air with OpenMedia22nd March 2019
In summer 2017 Radio Bremen tendered the renewal of the TV complex on a Europe-wide basis. In the end, MCI was able to stand up to the competition due to its detailed migration and optimisation concepts and was awarded the contract to reconstruct the television and event complex from 2006 in autumn 2017.
The core objectives of the TV complex renewal were the continuous production in HD, the optimisation of workflows, the increase in operational reliability and, of course, savings in operating costs.
Wide-ranging 3G HD reconstruction of the infrastructure, the implementation of control automation and camera robotics as well as the complete renewal of the production technology guarantee optimised processes in the studio and control room.
In addition, the OpenMedia newsroom system, which is essential for broadcasting scheduling, became part of this project. In Radio Bremen’s system, OpenMedia has a large number of interfaces for processing third-party rights information, billing requests and archiving. Furthermore, the Content Management System VPMS is connected to OpenMedia.
The OpenMedia newsroom system supports more efficient workflows by covering the entire workflow from research and cross-media planning of regional topics for TV, radio and online through to playout. The StudioDirector plugin from OpenMedia also supports the workflows of an automated studio production.
The workflows in the new TV studio will also be optimised by the virtual Studio Xpression by Ross Video, which is connected to the OpenMedia newsroom system via the MOS connection.
In this project, MCI was responsible as general contractor for the creation of a complete requirement specification (consisting of the parts control system, automation, newsroom system with connections to VPMS, robotics and VR system) and the associated compliance matrix, for the integration and connection of the newsroom system and studio automation, the implementation planning, installation, configuration, commissioning as well as the training of the new TV complex.
André Busjaeger, head of technical coordination at Radio Bremen and overall project manager, is pleased with the successful project:

The final switchover to the new technology took place in the night of 9 February 2019, so that Radio Bremen was able to broadcast the new production complex for the first time on Saturday.
