SCISYS Media Solutions: A central dira! milestone in the major project at the South African Broadcasting Corporation is set

6th September 2019

Dortmund, September 2019 – In Johannesburg, two more radio stations successfully launched their first live broadcasts with the dira! system at the end of last month as part of the major project at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

On Wednesday, 21st August 2019, the SABC’s international broadcasting service Channel Africa, which provides news for the African continent in six different languages (Chewa, Silozi, Swahili, English, French and Portuguese), went live at 11 am local time.

Preparation at its final stages: Technical Producer Wiseman Manqele (sitting on the chair) and (from left to right) Mahlatse Dlamini (Specialist System Administrator), Tidimalo Makau (Technical Producer), Adrian Kenny (Technical Producer) and Brett Wilkinson (Executive Producer) in the Channel Africa Studio in Johannesburg.

Only one week later, on Wednesday, 28th August at 9am local time, SAfm, South Africa‘s first public radio station, followed. Therefore, the last radio station in Johannesburg is now equipped with the dira! radio production and playout system.

Nada Wotshela (GE Radio), Bongi Gwala (Presenter), Kina Nhlengethwa (Marketing Manager/Acting Station Manager), Natano Brache (Head of Programming and Innovation SABC Radio)

Our Project Manager Michael Walla says:

„When we visited the site, we were very pleased that the project team within SABC had also acquired a strong level of experience as a result of the previous migrations, which boosted the excellent cooperation between our project team and our customer. From the very beginning, both radio stations were full of anticipation and trust in the dira! system. And thanks to the excellent work done in advance by the entire team, we were able to start broadcasting dira! smoothly at Channel Africa and SAfm. We are very proud to have reached a central milestone (also for SABC) with the completion of the main site in Johannesburg.“

After the successful first dira! live broadcast on Channel Africa and SAfm, SCISYS Media Solutions and SABC look forward to migrate 12 more of a total of 19 radio stations to the dira! system.
