Belgium’s RTBF Integrates NewsBoard from SCISYS Media Solutions

Innovative dashboard solution helps news department plan story-centric workflow for all media outlets

Munich, Germany, 19. December 2019: The leading newsroom system provider in Europe, SCISYS Media Solutions, is pleased to announce that Belgium’s Radio-Télévision Belge de la Communauté Française (RTBF), the country’s leading public service broadcaster for the French-speaking Belgians, is integrating its NewsBoard dashboard solution into its wider SCISYS OpenMedia workflow.

RTBF, whose newsroom services three TV channels, five radio stations, online, and social media, first became a SCISYS customer in 2017 when it implemented an OpenMedia newsroom system for up to 250 journalists and ancillary support staff. The NewsBoard integration follows RTBF’s strategic move towards a story-centric workflow in the organisation that prioritises news stories that work across the different media outlets.

“We wanted to break down the traditional silos of radio, TV, as well as online and enable a more story-centric way of working in the newsroom, putting our audiences at the centre of the organisation,” explains Benoît Balon-Perin, Digital Workflows Manager at RTBF. “That means we need a tool like NewsBoard because we want everyone in the newsroom to think 360-degrees: to think not only what they are doing for one media, but how the story will work for all other media and to collaborate on content.”

The SCISYS’ web-based NewsBoard helps to organise the story production process, from ideas to distribution. Based around metadata-driven workflows, it features a customisable and open widget architecture to help teams keep up with continuous workflow changes. Different sharing levels, like Personal, Team and Public Boards, allow users to find, share and organise the relevant data of the newsroom, from agency wires, stories, and social media, to audio/video content from an organisation’s CMS, PAM, or MAM.

“The benefit of NewsBoard is that everything is visible on one screen,” says Balon-Perin. “Nothing is printed, so everything is updated immediately. It is much easier to have a story-centric and 360 degrees approach and as a result nobody is working in his own silos anymore. Shortly, it will be also a huge benefit to our journalists, especially in the field as they will be able to connect to the newsroom wherever they are and look at what stories are planned for the day.”

“We are excited about RTBF being our first customer going into production with NewsBoard,” comments Michael Pfitzner, COO and General Manager at SCISYS Media Solutions. “NewsBoard enables RTBF to take its OpenMedia installation to the next level and assist it in developing story-centric workflows that reflect the new organisational realities of modern news operations.”
